SMART brings Boundless Connectivity

SMART brings Boundless Connectivity with their new SatSleeve and XT a stand-alone Satellite Phone

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) launched the SmartSAT, together with a new devices for iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S4 the SatSleeve and  the XT, a stand-alone satellite phone unit that is specially made to withstand tough environments.

Under SmartSAT, the mobile leader now offers the SatSleeve, a portable dock that transforms a smartphone into an instant satellite device. Smart also offers the XT, Both the SatSleeve and XT give users access to voice calls, emails, text messages and data services even in areas where cellular coverage is compromised.

SmartSAT package
SmartSAT package worth Php 38,500, inclusive of a special satellite SIM with an initial airtime credit load of about $225 or around PHP10,000, valid for one year.

A voice call from a remote area costs about $0.57 per minute to Smart, Sun and PLDT numbers, and $0.80 per minute to other networks. International calls range from $0.57 to $5.75, depending on the location.

On the other hand, SMS service costs $0.23 per message, while data service is charged $0.015 for every 10kb. Contacting the customer care hotline on satellite mode is free of charge. Prepaid load cards will be available to subscribers to maintain the satellite services.

Vital lifeline in extreme scenarios
“SmartSAT seeks to empower Filipinos with boundless connectivity and addresses a need that was dramatically highlighted by recent disasters,” said Orlando B. Vea, Smart Chief Wireless Advisor.

Vea cited the country’s experience in the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda, which toppled power and communication lines and rendered many parts of Eastern Visayas out of reach for days except through the use of satellite devices.

“The disaster brought about greater awareness of satellite communications as a vital lifeline in extreme scenarios,” said Vea. “The benefits of satellite communication became perceptible, setting off a demand for this technology to be made available to a wider public – and fast.”

Satellite coverage across two-thirds of the world
“The advent of compact satellite devices like the SatSleeve and XT with affordable service rates reinforces the case to owning a personal satellite device,” said Tina Z. Mariano, head of Smart Global Access group.

Smart offers both devices under its strategic partnership with mobile satellite services provider Thuraya Telecommunications Company (Thuraya), which was forged in September last year.

The deal expanded Smart’s satellite coverage to over 160 countries or two-thirds of the world, including major sealanes in Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Indian Ocean.

Following its partnership with Thuraya, Smart’s satellite business arm launched Smart Marino Phonepal, a prepaid, IVR PIN-based calling service that allows seafarers to make voice calls from their ships with the lowest satellite rates at PHP18 per minute.

Smart has since deployed Marino PhonePal terminals to over 1,000 vessels and forged deals with over 100 manning agencies, maritime organizations, schools, and training centers to promote the service.

ASUS Announces GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750 Graphics Cards

High-value 3D-gaming cards combine superior components with innovative design for enhanced stability and performance that’s up to 52MHz faster than reference

Philippines, Manila (19th February, 2014) — ASUS today announced GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750, two new high-value 3D-gaming graphics cards equipped respectively with the powerful GeForce® GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750 graphics-processing units (GPUs) and overclocked for performance that’s up to 52MHz faster than reference.

The new GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750 cards benefit from many exclusive ASUS technologies and tools including dust-proof fans for improved card lifespan and Super Alloy Power components for superior stability. They also include GPU Tweak, an easy-to-use tuning software that helps users to squeeze every last drop of performance out of their graphics card and stream on-screen action over the internet in real time — great for boasting rights.

GTX 750 has a 1059MHz overclocked base clock that runs as fast as 1137MHz when boosted, while the GTX 750 Ti flies along with a 1072MHz overclocked base clock that ratchets all the way up to 1150 MHz when boosted — so the latest 3D games can be enjoyed at very high detail levels of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels with no slowdown.

Advanced dust-proofing and Super Alloy Power components for extended lifespan

Both GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750 benefit from a unique fan design and layout that dissipates heat efficiently while offering highly-effective resistance to the intake of dust and other particulates. GTX 750 has one of these dust-proof fans, while GTX 750 Ti is cooled by two — extending both cards’ lifespan by up to 25% compared to reference designs. GTX 750 Ti’s dual dust-proof fans improve airflow by up to two times (2X) compared to the reference design, for even better cooling.

The new cards also feature exclusive ASUS Super Alloy Power components. Super Alloy Power’s concrete-core chokes and hardened MOSFETs withstand much greater stress and heat thanks to the application of specially-formulated materials, while minimized power loss, enhanced durability and cooler operation ensure that GTX 750 Ti and GTX 750’s components last much longer than references — up to two-and-a-half (2.5X) times longer, in fact.

Exclusive overclocking advantage with GPU Tweak

Huawei praises Elabram Systems Engineers for the job well done

Just recently, Elabram Systems received an email from their client (Huawei ) praising three of the Elabram Engineers for the great job done in their projects. The three Engineers are working here in the Philippines under Huawei for the two operators and they are Andrew Gabiosa, Melchor Barracas and Greg Bolaton. Idea is for the Filipinos to know that there are companies such as Elabram Systems who are helping them to have a good and better connections and that because of ever increasing of mobile phones consumers, the Telecommunication companies will expand too in no time and that good, empowered and skilled ECEs will be in demand for sure in the near future and that Filipinos are empowered and skilled and can make a difference.

Meet Elabram Systems Group and was established in 1999 in Malaysia. We have 26 footprints around the globe and business offices in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and in Philippines with core expertise in providing Network Planning Optimization (NPO), Talent Acquisition & Deployment (TAD), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

Introducing the manpower behind your good mobile and network connectivity, the people behind the optimization of network are all Electronic and Communication Engineers (ECE) who literally checking the signal of each cell sites, going up literally to the cell sites to move the antenna on top even it’s located on top of the mountain, monitoring the performance of each equipment at operators headquarters (Globe and Smart) and closely coordinating with the vendors; Huawei, ZTE, NSN, Alcatel Lucent, Ericsson, Digi, U Mobile…in other words, you will not have a good signal without Elabram Systems.

Five Different Ways….

Five Different Ways to Make a Difference:

Philips rallies the public to vote for the best idea to improve quality of life of Yolanda-affected communities in the Visayas

“Innovations that Matter to You” program teams up with the government, NGOs, and Filipinos to determine the very first ‘meaningful innovation’ in the Philippines

Manila, 2013 – Over three months have passed since super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) ravaged the Visayas region – leaving the archipelago with thousands of lives lost, infrastructures destroyed, sources of lifelines such as power and network knocked out, and billions worth of livelihood washed out – causing an unimaginable effect to the surviving communities in the area. According to the latest situation report (SitRep No. 104) of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), total cost of infrastructure damages alone are now pegged at P19.5 billion.

In response to the needs of these communities affected by Yolanda, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) in the Philippines decided to refocus its ‘Meaningful Innovations’ program in the country to define and deliver meaningful innovations to affected communities in the Visayas through idea generation and sharing.

Initially a health and well-being campaign, the outcome of the Philips Innovations campaign will result in a meaningful and sustainable project that will focus on three core issues facing the Visayas today: the need for sustainable infrastructure for displaced families, immediate access to quality healthcare services, and addressing health and nutrition-related concerns.

To further amplify the campaign, Philips Philippines partnered with the Department of Health (DOH), World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines), I Can Serve Foundation, and key social media influencers such as Kim Atienza, Kelly Misa, and Jim Paredes, to invite Filipinos to submit their ideas.

In addition, Philips also visited major universities in Metro Manila over the past months to rally support from the youth for the crowd sourcing initiative. As a result, a total of 1,057 ideas have been contributed by the public to help address the needs of affected communities in the Visayas.

Last January, a group of Philips executives and representatives from its institutional partners, screened, deliberated, and shortlisted the top five (5) ideas from all contributed entries based on a set criteria. “After listening and defining the needs of the people, families, and communities in the Visayas region, this is where the power of co-creation comes in – to curate these brilliant ideas and deliver the best innovation to Filipinos who need it the most,” shared by Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, Philips Philippines Country Manager. “The partnerships that we have forged with the DOH, WWF-Philippines, I Can Serve Foundation, and the public have gone a long way to create innovations that can rebuild lives and rekindle hope of Filipinos. This is what Philips stands for – innovations that matter to you.” The ideas were judged based on its impact to communities, feasibility, use of innovation, and relevance to category.

Here are the top five (5) innovations proposed by Filipinos, to be chosen by Filipinos, to be built in collaboration with Philips (in no particular order):

· Rural Healthcare: Deploying mini-clinics for Yolanda survivors by Paolo Fajardo and Johanne Morales, Metro Manila

“We propose the creation of mini-clinics, powered by Philips healthcare equipment, to provide Yolanda-affected communities who do not have healthcare facilities with easier access to medical treatment. Depending on the prevailing condition(s) in the affected area(s), the clinic can either be done using old but reusable buses, to allow it to be mobile or situated in an area that people can easily go/travel to.”

· Empowering lives through sunlight: The Solar Charging Station Project by Geoffrey Panganiban, OFW from Dubai

“Until now, energy distribution in Yolanda-affected areas remains a serious issue. To address this, I am proposing for the creation of a Philips solar charging station to provide Yolanda-stricken areas with alternative power sources. This system, being a clean energy source, can be an alternative to electricity. It is also environmentally friendly since it does not produce harmful carbon emissions.”

· Healthcare Online: The Patient Healthcare Management System by Daniel Galang, Metro Manila

“Health workers are still a scarce resource in Yolanda-affected areas. I propose for the development of a healthcare management system by Philips that can provide local hospitals and medical practitioners with much-needed support. This information system is envisioned to allow for remote diagnosis by allowing medical specialists in the Visayas to input and transmit a patient’s medical information to a pool of health experts in another area, who can provide additional expert advice.”

· The Solar Night Light Project: Lighting up Yolanda-stricken communities by Illac Diaz, Metro Manila

“MyShelter Foundation (MSF) launched the Liter of Light project, a two-step, DIY solar lighting project that makes use of recycled plastic soda bottles and a simple circuit board built from readily available parts and local skills to address the need for day and night lighting in evacuation and off-grid areas.

The goal of this idea is that MSF works together with Philips to find a technical solution to improve this technology, so that more poor communities can benefit from this innovative solution.”

· An interactive take on Healthcare by Marika Lacanilao, Metro Manila

“The onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas has increased the demand for medical-related services in the area, especially since hospitals were damaged, and resident healthcare professionals were displaced. To empower the people with regard to their health, and to increase awareness and education, I propose the creation of the mobile Philips interactive healthcare booths, which will provide information on various illnesses and disease, as well as their symptoms and proposed modes of treatment, through a comprehensive and entertaining application. Ideally, this solution will encourage people to look after themselves better, and become more conscious about their health and well-being.”

“The lingering effects of the havoc Yolanda caused will always be with the people of the Visayas and every stricken city. Pressing concerns are still very imminent in affected areas – from rebuilding destroyed health facilities, following up with the wounded survivors, and providing livelihood to the affected families,” said Dr. Ivanhoe Escartin, National Center for Health Promotion (NCHP) OIC-Director IV of the Department of Health (DOH). “We are happy that part of the criteria in refining and selecting the shortlisted ideas include use of innovation and the feasibility in bringing to life the winning idea within the year. Philips is going in the right direction because they are able to realize the needs of the victims of Yolanda who have survived trying times and are now rising up to the challenge to start living again,” Dr. Escartin added.

As hope and heroism emerge from the aftermath of Yolanda, Philips brings a new light of optimism as it now invites Filipinos to vote for the best innovation at

www.meaningfulinnovation.asia/philippines. The most voted idea stands a better chance at implementation, with social media votes accounting for 30% of the total score. Philips strives to implement the winning idea within 2014 by working in close coordination with the idea proponent(s), as well as the necessary government units and NGOs.

Public voting period will start on February 19 up to March 2. For more information on the “Innovation that Matters to You” program in the Philippines. Please visit www.meaningfulinnovation.asia/philippines or www.facebook.com/PhilipsPhilippines.
