The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a retro style, mid-size SUV with styling and off road performance reminiscent of the original Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ40). The “FJ” in the Toyota FJ Cruiser’s name refers to the chassis specification code of the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. The classic Land Cruiser was produced worldwide from 1960 until 1984.  And like the old FJ40, the Toyota FJ Cruiser has superior off-road capabilities.

The production of the FJ Cruiser has been discontinued in 2014 and only a handful is available in showrooms. If you want one, now is the time to get it. However, excitement and capability live on with adventure-ready Toyota vehicles. In the Philippines, the excitement over these vehicles is very much alive with the upcoming Pilipinas FJ Summit™ 2017.

There will be a grand showcase and EB of FJ Cruiser owners from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The Pilipinas FJ Summit™ will be held at the Jose Rizal Plaza, Calamba City Hall in Calamba Laguna on April 29-30, 2017. There will also be a Pilipinas FJ Summit™ Run on April 30. The Pilipinas FJ Summit™ is organized by the Philippine FJ Cruisers Club, Inc. It heralds the first of a series of Buhayani Festival Events organized by the City Government of Calamba to commemorate our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. The Buhayani is Calamba City’s annual festival celebrating its history and heroes, both historic and contemporary.

Conquer the Pilipinas FJ Summit™ Challenge. It is a uniquely designed off-road course that was created to test the prowess of the FJ Cruiser and its driver. Feast on 100 or

more FJ Cruisers, including yours, that will be displayed on the Summit Day.

“The main attraction of the Summit will be the convergence of as many FJ Cruisers that can be accommodated in the 4-hectare Summit grounds. If the FJ Cruiser is a reflection of the personality or lifestyle of its owner, prepared to encounter as many permutations of the FJ Cruiser as there will be Summit Delegates,” shares Philippine FJ Cruisers Club. As an official Summit Delegate, you will have the opportunity to meet and befriend fellow FJ Cruiser owners and enthusiasts from all over the country. The All-New Mazda CX-3

The All-New Mazda CX-3: A Crossover Like No Other

Berjaya Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda vehicles in the country, has unveiled the latest addition to the Japanese brand’s new-generation vehicle lineup – the all-new Mazda CX-3 Freestyle Crossover Vehicle.

Born out of Mazda’s unrelenting desire to provide a unique compact crossover driving experience to the expanding sub-compact crossover market, the new CX-3 was designed from the ground up to deliver a captivating, powerful and one-of-a- kind vehicle for young, forward-thinking individuals and families.

Combining the best of both form and function, the Japan-made CX-3 is the sixth model to showcase both the company’s striking KODO: Soul of Motion design language and the highly efficient and innovative SKYACTIV suite of body, chassis, suspension, engine and drivetrain technologies.

“The new CX-3 is one of the most highly anticipated vehicles we have ever unveiled in the Philippine market,” shares Steven Tan, President and CEO of Berjaya Auto Philippines. He adds, “Its stylish looks, unmatched performance and impeccable build quality make it a vehicle that only Mazda could have created. Featuring the latest evolution of the KODO template, the new CX-3 uncompromisingly pursued the ideal forms and proportions as envisioned by Mazda designers in their quest to capture the hearts and minds of the new era of car owners. Bold, simple and vibrant expressions of movement characterize the new CX-3’s facade. Replete with striking details such as its aggressively raked A-pillar, the finely sculpted grill and LED lighting assemblies, short overhangs, a floating roof side line which is accentuated by the stylishly blacked out D-pillar, and 18-inch wheels in the top trim, the exterior is undeniably Mazda.

The new CX-3’s driver-oriented interior appropriately echoes its dynamic exterior. Similar to the high-end finish, and uncompromised build-quality, found in the rest of Mazda’s new-generation models, the new CX-3 does not scrimp when it comes to cabin amenities. Soft-to-the-touch panels with rich suede trimmings metallic and piano black accents line the cabin. A 7-inch touchscreen monitor housing the MZD-CONNECT infotainment system highlights the classy dash while the Active Driving Display HUD sits atop the meter cluster of the Sport and AWD Activ variants. And for the latter, leather seats with suede mid-sections and red accents add a touch of sportiness to an already dynamic design while a 7-speaker (with amplifier) BOSE entertainment system elevates listening pleasure for the driver and passenger alike. To accommodate long items at the back, a versatile rear seat layout which folds forward and up, opens up usable luggage space in the new CX-3.

Providing the impetus for the new CX-3’s dynamic driving feel is a class-leading 2-liter SKYACTIV-G Gasoline Direct-injection engine rated at 148ps at 6,000 rpm and mated to a 6-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission. With a torque output of 192Nm coming in fully as low as 2,800 rpm, linear and powerful acceleration is guaranteed further ensuring an enjoyable experience behind the wheel. Similar to other new-generation Mazda vehicles, fuel economy has not been sacrificed in the name of performance. The new CX-3’s i-STOP engine idle-stop system helps keep gasoline consumption in check.

For those who refuse to be constrained by the limits of the road, the high-end AWD Activ variant of the new CX-3 features Mazda’s very own i-ACTIV All Wheel Drive system. This is the first all-wheel drive system to be employed in the sub-compact crossover segment. Like the CX-5 and CX-9 Sport Utility Vehicles, the new CX-3 AWD Activ’s capability to traverse varying road conditions is greatly enhanced thereby taking the Jinba Ittai, horse-and-rider-as-one, driving experience beyond the confines of the road.

As with all new-generation Mazda vehicles, the new CX-3 benefits from a rigid, yet light, SKYACTIV BODY and CHASSIS structure. Both contribute to the crossover’s lively driving performance and notable fuel-efficiency. Along with active and passive safety systems such as Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), front, side and curtain airbags and standard 3-point seatbelts, the new CX-3 forms a complete and fully loaded package that confidently and stylishly puts it a class above its peers.

Mazda CX-3 units are all made in Japan. They are available in three variants – the FWD Pro which comes in Crystal White Pearl and Dynamic Blue; the FWD Sport with four colors – Crystal White Pearl, Soul Red, Jet Black and the trim-exclusive Titanium Flash; and the top-of-the-line AWD Activ which adds the Ceramic finish to its five-color palette. It also comes with Mazda’s value laden YOJIN3 TOTAL CARE package that comes with Free Periodic Maintenance Service for

years (or 60,000-kilometers, whichever comes first), as well as free 3-year Emergency Roadside Assistance and New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage for a period of three years or 100,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

Volkswagen Philippines showcases new vehicles in 6^th PIMS

Volkswagen Philippines, the official importer and distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in the country, displays its CC, Caddy, Golf GTI Oettinger Edition and accessorized units of its top-of-the-line cars at the 6^th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) from September 14 to 18, 2016 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

CC

Volkswagen’s highlight display for this edition of the PIMS is the CC, the four-door comfort coupe. The CC held its premiere in 2008 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and is the latest iteration of a successful line of sports and saloon coupes from Volkswagen dating back to 1955. The CC showcases in pure white combines the luxurious styling of an executive sedan with the sleek design of a sports coupé. It is powered by a 2.0 4-cylinder Turbo Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine with Start/Stop System. The 177 Ps of power it is able to generate is managed by a 6-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission system.

The CC’s safety and ride technologies feature eight Airbags, Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP), Engine Drag Torque Control, Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) with Drive Profile Selection, Electronic Differential Lock (XDS), and a Driver Alert System.

Interior amenities include 12-way electric driver seat with memory, massage and Active Climate function, and 12-way electric passenger seat with Active Climate function.

Caddy

Also making its Philippine debut is the Caddy, Volkswagen’s own take on the mini-van segment. First introduced in North America in 1980 and in Europe in 1982, the Caddy is now on its 3^rd generation of production, and through the years has collected its fair share of awards. The Caddy in reflex silver is powered by a 2.0 TDI engine mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission system, generating 140 Ps of power.

The Caddy comes with four airbags, an Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP), Hill Hold Control, Cruise Control, and 4Motion 4-wheel drive.

This mini-van offers flexible seating configurations as well as generous cargo space.

Golf GTI Oettinger Edition

The multi-awarded Golf GTI is dressed up to match its “ultimate sportsman” reputation in the Volkswagen sports car family. The Golf GTI on display makes an even bolder statement with an Oettinger kit (front spoiler, front splitter, side skirt set, 4-pipe rear skirt insert with diffusor, roof spoiler, and 4-pipe rear muffler), in matte black wrap, and on a set of 19-inch twine spoke rims and 225/40 tires.

This sporty setup perfectly complements the power the Golf GTI packs inside—a 2.0 TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engine with 220 Ps of power, mated to the 6-speed DSG transmission system and sports-tuned suspension. The Golf GTI truly depicts “style and performance.”

Beetle

This Volkswagen icon takes on a modern twist for the auto show. The simple, straightforward, classic quality of the Beetle in oryx white mother of pearl is highlighted with trim foils, 19-inch tornado black gloss alloy rims and 225/40 tires.

The Beetle offers modern amenities, with a twin-charged 1.4 TSI engine that generates 160 Ps and 7-speed DSG transmission system.

Jetta

The 2.0-liter TDI Jetta sedan in DSG transmission is known for above-average legroom, fold-down rear backrests, and its 510-liter cargo space, and stands out in its class for its simple elegance and comfort.

The Jetta on display at the auto show features a spoiler kit and 18-inch titanium alloy Karthoum rims in 225/40 tires.

Polo Hatchback

The 5^th generation Polo comes in as a favorite of young professionals and car lovers who value superior build quality and driving pleasure. These features are enhanced when a copper orange-colored Polo Hatchback is displayed sporting a set of 17-inch Motorsports (Anthracite) alloy rims.

The Polo Hatchback is powered by a 1.6-liter multi-point injection (MPI) gasoline engine that generates 105 Ps, maximum torque of 153 Nm, and mated to a 6-speed AT.

Tiguan Business Edition

The compact SUV Tiguan gets its own dress-up for the show with the Savannah 19-inch Mistral Anthracite alloy rims and 255/40 tires. The 2.0 TDI AT Business Edition in pepper gray metallic features the 4Motion permanent 4-wheel drive system.

The Tiguan engine generates 140 Ps, maximum torque of 320 Nm and mated to a 6-speed AT.

Touareg Sport Edition

The Touareg Sport Edition in deep black pearl highlights all the strengths of this premium SUV both as a luxury ride and as an off-roader. The Touareg is powered by the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder TDI engine that delivers 245 Ps with maximum torque of 550 Nm and mated to an 8-speed AT.

The Touareg is also equipped with a permanent 4Motion 4-wheel drive with air suspension, offering a high level of ride comfort.

“Sabel sa Beetle”

An interesting sidelight of the 6^th PIMS is the vintage Beetle on display at the motorshow’s heritage section at the World Trade Center lobby. The art masterpiece comes straight from the Museo Orlina in Tagaytay City, where multi-award-winning glass sculptor Ramon Orlina holds a permanent exhibit of his works spanning four decades. The model 1974 “Sabel sa Beetle” was transformed into a handpainted artwork by no less than Orlina’s close friend, National Artist Benedicto “Ben Cab” Cabrera. The “Sabel sa Beetle” represents the artist’s love affair with the automotive icon, which started in the 1960s when his mother gave him a Beetle as a gift for earning his architectural degree in UST.
