VMware, NVIDIA and Google Unveil Future of Graphics-Rich Applications Delivered on Enterprise Cloud Desktops Collaboration Delivers Fluid, Remote User Experience with any Windows Applications on Google Chromebooks

SINGAPORE, August 27, 2014 — Today at VMworld® 2014, VMware, NVIDIA and Googleannounced a collaborative effort to deliver high-performance virtual desktops and workstation-class graphics to Google Chromebooks.

Showcased as a technology preview, the solution demonstrates the next generation of VMware Blast Performance and NVIDIA GRID™ vGPU™ technology to satisfy customers’ most demanding visual computing needs.

The joint effort is expected to expand the hardware options for high-performance virtual desktops, enabling customers to select their system of choice without compromise.

“We are breaking down traditional barriers to adopting virtual desktops and offering new economics for the delivery of graphics-intensive applications through the power of the cloud,” said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. “Organisations of all industries and requirements will soon be able to embrace the mobile-cloud using a solution that offers a new way to work from three proven, industry leaders.”

The joint solution optimises the performance of virtual graphics applications at scale. NVIDIA GRID vGPU is the industry’s most advanced technology for sharing GPU acceleration between multiple virtual desktops. Combined with VMware Horizon in the data centre, the solution will VMware, NVIDIA, Google Demo Graphics-Rich Applications on Enterprise Cloud Desktops optimise graphics and CPU utilisation to allow more desktops and applications to be deployed on a single server.

VMware BLAST Performance technology in the data center and in firmware residing on Chromebooks will deliver a great end-user experience, graphics-rich applications with high fidelity, and extended battery life by up to 50 percent using exclusive NVIDIA® Tegra® decode technologies.(1) This makes graphically demanding applications, such as Adobe Illustrator CC and Autodesk AutoCAD, and productivity applications like Microsoft Office completely fluid. NVIDIA Tegra K1-powered Chromebooks, such as the Acer Chromebook 13, will be among the first Chromebooks to take advantage of this future technology.

“This collaboration will offer customers all the performance, stability and compatibility of NVIDIA hardware-accelerated graphics, with the added flexibility, mobility and security of a virtual environment,” said Jeff Brown, vice president and general manager, Professional Solutions Business, NVIDIA.

“Chromebooks were designed to bring a new approach to many of the problems withtraditional computers,” said Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management, Google. “We’re excited about what this collaboration means for our customers and what it can enable them to do.

Imagine manufacturers designing complex 3D models and sharing them with engineers around the globe, or physicians taking medical imaging out into the community, rather than being tethered to high end workstations.”

Availability  Customers who would like to experience VMware products with NVIDIA GRID vGPU can register for an early access programme at http://www.nvidia.com/grid-vmware-vgpu. The programme will be available for select NVIDIA and VMware customers in Q4 2014.

NVIDIA Quadro…

image

SINGAPORE — August 13, 2014 — NVIDIA today unveiled its next generation of NVIDIA® Quadro® GPUs – providing new tools and technologies to meet the visual computing needs of the world’s leading designers, artists and scientists.

The new lineup delivers an enterprise-grade visual computing platform with up to twice the application performance and data handling capability of the previous generation. It reflects NVIDIA’s extensive work with leading customers across industries to gain greater insight into their growing requirements to work with more complex models and higher-resolution images; to incorporate cloud-based resources; and to access work remotely, often on mobile devices.

“The next generation of Quadro GPUs not only dramatically increases graphics and compute performance to handle huge data sets. It extends the concept of visual computing from a graphics card in a workstation to a connected environment,” said Jeff Brown, vice president ofProfessional Visualisation at NVIDIA. “The new Quadro lineup lets users interact with theirdesigns or data locally on a workstation, remotely on a mobile device or in tandem with cloudbased services.”

NVIDIA Quadro GPUs are already the overwhelming choice of leading creative and design
professionals, who depend on it for their most important work. For the past six years running, every film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects was made with Quadro technology. And Quadro is the choice of essentially every automotive designer worldwide.

“From increased efficiency to new workflow models, the results we’ve achieved with the latest Quadro GPUs are fundamental to our future,” said Steve MacPherson, chief technology officer at Framestore. “The world’s leading brands and studios trust Framestore because of our history of creativity and successful delivery, which depends on a technology infrastructure and talent base that has no boundaries in terms of realizing a creative vision. NVIDIA Quadro is an essential component to helping us keep our edge, and gives us the reassurance of knowing the graphics technology our artists rely on has been developed specifically for professional users with the highest standards of reliability and compatibility.”

Benefits of New Quadro GPUs

The new generation of Quadro GPUs – the K5200, K4200, K2200, K620, and K420 – enables users to:

Interact with data sets or designs up to twice the size handled by previous generations.

Remotely interact with graphics applications from a Quadro-based workstation from essentially any device, including PCs, Macs and tablets. Run major applications – such as Adobe® CC, Autodesk Design Suite and Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS 2014 – on average 40 percent faster than with previous Quadro cards.

Switch effortlessly from local GPU rendering to cloud-based offerings using NVIDIA Iray®
rendering.

Positive Early Reaction“Big data, the cloud and mobile connectivity represent the most important issues that enterprises are facing today. New approaches such as those NVIDIA is taking will be required for businesses to effectively manage these converging trends.”

-Jon Peddie, Jon Peddie Research
“A significant proportion of PSA’s design and production engineering workforce operates
remotely at any one time. Working with the power of the NVIDIA Quadro K2200, our teams can
