PHILIPPINES, 18 December 2014 – Yahoo Philippines today announced its 2014 Year in Review (YIR), an annual recap of the top trends, happenings and events, which grabbed the attention of Yahoo users in the Philippines. YIR is based on what users searched for through the year, and an editorial selection of what was most read, recommended and shared on Yahoo in 2014.

Yahoo YIR offers insights into what captured the user’s interests across categories like Philippines’ Top 10 Newsmakers, Top Sports Stories, and Global Obsessions, among others.

A perfectly coned-shaped volcano, a TV host’s bedroom shenanigans and a smartphone were among the top searches by Yahoo Philippines users in 2014. However, the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year topped the most searched list. The intensity and path of Typhoon Ruby brought back nightmarish memories brought by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last year. The popular animated movie Frozen, an international beauty pageant and the death of a transgender woman also made it to the list of top searches on Yahoo Philippines in 2014.

The Yahoo Philippines editorial team identified 10 of the year’s biggest newsmakers who dominated the headlines in 2014. On top of this list is Vice President Jejomar Binay. The 2016 presidential hopeful made headlines because of allegations on overpricing construction projects when he was mayor of Makati and the alleged ownership of a sprawling estate in Batangas. Last year’s top newsmaker, businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the pork barrel scam, is number two on the list as public interest on her personal and health matters continues. Other newsmakers of the year included former first lady Imelda Marcos, actress Nora Aunor, and Senator Miriam Santiago.

Nonito Donaire also made it to the list, along with the management issues of the AZKALS, the rising popularity of volleyball, and the new International Premier Tennis League games that were played in Manila.

Yahoo Celebrity Awards Receives Over 9 Million Fan Votes and Counting

Manila, [June 25, 2014] – The 4th Yahoo Celebrity Awards (formerly Yahoo OMG! Awards) is proving to be the most exciting one yet! After only three weeks of voting, over 9 million votes were notched from online votes, surpassing last year’s total number of votes!

Yahoo Celebrity Awards honors Filipino celebrities from the fields of movies, music, radio and television, who are voted into the top ranks by their fans from across the world. This is the fourth consecutive year of Yahoo Celebrity Awards, which are not only the most popular awards program in the country but also uniquely “Powered by You” – as fans have the exclusive power to vote for their favorite stars.

Kate Delos Reyes, Country Manager and Country Editor of Yahoo Philippines was ecstatic with the results and said, “We all know how much Filipino fans love our celebrities! Now is the time to show them how important they are to you. Ask your friends and family to vote to make sure your favorites win in their respective categories!”

This year’s awards is made more exciting with the addition of 10 new categories; Celebrity Couple, Celebrity Family, Male and Female Hothletes, Band of the Year, Male and Female ‘Kontrabida’, Emerging Band, Song of the Year and Social Media Star. There are 140 nominees across 28 categories.

Yahoo launches Celebrity Awards 2014 in Philippines

– Pinoy stars and fans gear up for the most popular awards in the country –

– 140 nominees across 28 categories –

Manila, June 4, 2014 – Yahoo Philippines today announced the launch of the Yahoo Celebrity Awards 2014 and unveiled the nominees for this year. Yahoo Celebrity Awards (formerly OMG! Awards) honors Philippines’ celebrities from the fields of movies, music, radio and television, who are voted into the top ranks by their fans from across the world. This is the fourth consecutive year of Yahoo Celebrity Awards, which are not only the most popular awards program in the country but also uniquely “Powered by You” – as fans have the exclusive power to vote their favorite stars in.

This year, the Yahoo Celebrity Awards includes 140 nominees across 28 categories – with ten new categories added especially given the emerging trends in the entertainment industry. The event gives users a chance to vote for their favorite stars on Yahoo Celebrity and see them up-close and personal during a star-studded, glamorous evening. Fans can also request for performances by their favorite stars at the gala awards ceremony that will take place on July 18.

Commenting at the launch, Kate Delos Reyes, Country Manager and Country Editor of Yahoo Philippines said “Yahoo Celebrity Awards honors not only the Pinoy stars but also the fans who propel them to stardom. This year’s Celebrity Awards includes ten exciting new additions to the existing classic categories: Celebrity Couple, Celebrity Family, Male and Female Hothletes, Band of the Year, Male and Female ‘Kontrabida’, Emerging Band, Song of the Year and Social Media Star.

What makes the Yahoo Celebrity Awards even more special this year is the new ‘Yahoo-On-the-Road’ bus, which will be touring schools showcasing nominees of the Band of the Year and Emerging Band categories.
